Happy New Year From Wascana 2013

like my compansions,was very disappointed,

even shocked after their short, almost disastrous performance.

We’d waited almost 30 year’s to see these Legendary musicians ,

yet , like in 1966 with Bob Dylan ,they were almost booed from the stage.

As they finished , I heard cries of ”We want The Band”-ie not this…..

The following day i felt very sad,sorry for them…

that a group over ten years had produced classic songs and albums

[ I suddenly realised that they are scared to my memory and mind]

had sunk to this tragedy,complete with Levon falling off his drum -stool..

As Napoleon declared,”From the sublime to the ridiculous, there is only one step”

But this sorry saga had a happy ending which  your readers should know.

On Saturday evening, I  thought I’d better check out the final gig ,

just in case I had missed something better. Thank God I did .

The pervious evening, Rick Danko hadfive songs,because of  walked off stage after

servere food-poisoning, but tonite he was well, smiling , and as we walked on stage

[carring a large Irish flag ], he apologised, then promised a good time.

This we got,for one and half hours,in fact a party, which the large audience greatly appreciated.

Not a slavish , museum-piece imitation of the early 1970′s Band.

But a living, hard-rocking , very -together unit who smiled at and embraced each other,with moments of comedy as a

spontaneous extra.

So the rumours of The Band’s demise, as reported by Siobhan Long in your last issue,

, premature and exaggerated.If they return , a year or two hence, I will again make the pilgrimage…

Repertoire Musical Performers should have repertoire of at least 20 songs.

Drum Kits No drums because they cannot be turned down

so only cajon percussion instruments can be played

Repeated offenders Any Performer who doesn’t adhere to the street code will be subject to Legal Proceedings By Dublin City Council.

Health and Safety Be mindful while performing in a public place…and that no part of the performance indangers a member of the public.

Respect the code not spoil it for other performers

And in making this code a reality after the 3 month trial

New Performers Approvered Street Performers will inform all new [including overseas performers] of the Laminate System and encourage them to sign up to the code.
